M-LFD Responds to Apartment Fire in Great Neck

On Saturday, September 26, 2020, at approximately 6:47 p.m., all five M-LFD fire companies and the Ambulance Unit were alerted to 12 Welwyn Road in Great Neck for a reported apartment fire. Deputy Chief Antonelli (8704) was the first to respond, arrived on scene within 1 minute of the alarm and advised of smoke showing. Upon making entry into the apartment, DC8704 confirmed a gas dryer fire with ehavy smoke condition. DC8704 along with FF/EMT Sard kept the fire in check with multiple water cans until the crew of E8734 was able to stretch a hose line to extinguish the fire. Crews from all M-LFD companies made entry and searched numerous apartments and were able to reunite several dogs with their worried owners. A heavy smoke condition was vented along with high levels of carbon monoxide. One aided was transported to an area hospital by the M-LFD Ambulance Unit. Our mutual aid partners from the Great Neck Alert Fire Company, Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company and New Hyde Park Fire Company all operated at the scene.
